About clinical psychologist Danielle Voestermans

I am Danielle Voestermans, a BIG-registered clinical psychologist and psychotherapist.

What is my specialization?

Throughout my career, I have primarily specialized in psychotherapy, with a particular focus on trauma and personality development.

How do I work?

I believe in standing beside you and exploring together, with curiosity, why you feel stuck in certain recurring patterns. We will look at your self-image, your perception of others, and the world around you, and explore how these perceptions have developed over time.

Together, we will examine your early (attachment) relationships and how they influence your current relationships, as well as your temperament (for example, whether you are more introverted or extroverted) and how life experiences have shaped the way you deal with your emotions. The goal is to gain new insights, learn new skills, and have new experiences in order to break or soften these patterns.

What kind of therapy do I offer?

I offer both individual and group psychotherapy, drawing from various therapeutic frameworks, including Schema Therapy, Affect Phobia Therapy (AFT), Mentalization-Based Therapy (MBT), and psychodynamic therapy. For trauma processing, I use techniques such as EMDR, imaginary exposure, and rescripting, often in combination. My approach goes beyond just talking and analyzing, as I also incorporate body-oriented and experiential exercises to help you connect on an emotional level.

Together, we will determine which therapeutic approach aligns best with your unique way of processing and understanding things. There are many paths to healing, and we will work together to find the one that suits you best.

What kind of therapist am I?

My style is both confrontational and empathetic; I aim to be “sharp in my observation but gentle in my judgment.” I will be transparent about what I observe and feel in our interactions and use that to help us better understand why you continue to encounter certain patterns. I also believe that appropriate humor can be a powerful part of therapy. Most importantly, I strive to create a safe space where you are free to think, feel, and discover everything about yourself.

I believe it is essential that you take responsibility for what you want to gain from therapy, as this is the best way to regain control over your life. However, I will stand by your side to support you in that process.
