You are highly sensitive from birth. It is innate, so you do not have high sensitivity, but you are highly sensitive. So it will not disappear. You can learn to live with it and it can be very useful and pleasant for you to seek guidance.
In a practical sense, it is important that you become aware of the innate quality and that you adjust your lifestyle accordingly: take more rest, be alone more time or visit nature and limit overstimulation (such as busy, competitive environments).
During the treatment you will be given practical tools to learn to deal with the stimuli around you, how to reduce your fatigue and worry, how to make better planning and structure for yourself, how to improve setting your limits, etc.
Learning to deal with high sensitivity can be done in various ways. A psychologist can apply different forms of therapy during the conversations.
Mindfulness (awareness) is used regularly to better understand your emotions. We add skills and techniques to do things more effectively. Mindfulness ensures that your body and mind relax, and that overstimulation disappears or becomes less.
Cognitive behavioral therapy can help you if you have negative thinking patterns that also influence your behavior and feelings. You will learn how to break through these unhealthy thinking patterns and transform them into positive thoughts.
Body-oriented therapy (breathing and relaxation exercises) can also be used to reduce feelings of stress.
It is possible that one form of therapy is used, but a combination of different types of therapy is also a good option. At the start of the treatment process, you discuss with your therapist which form of therapy is best for you and your symptoms, and what feels comfortable for you. In this way, the treatment is tailor-made, so that you feel seen, heard and helped by us.
