“During my treatments, I try to understand as well as possible who you are as a person, so that together we can create a tailor-made treatment that will benefit you the most.”
From an early age I have been interested in people’s motivations; how people think, feel and behave. Consequently, I enjoyed studying psychology, criminology and psychotherapy. I find it fascinating that with almost 8 billion people in the world, everyone is unique and walks their own path in life. During my treatments, I try to understand as much as possible who you are as a person, so that together we can create a tailor-made treatment that will benefit you the most.
I am described by my clients as empathetic, open-minded and thorough. In contact, I am both warm and firm. I am not afraid to keep asking when I don’t fully understand something. People often tell me that they feel truly seen and heard during conversations with me.
At my previous workplace, I worked extensively with sexuality and gender identity issues. Through my work with the LGBTQI+ target group, I was able to experience again and again that our bodies and minds are closely connected. In my treatments, I therefore pay as much attention to the body as to our thinking; also because I find that the body is too often forgotten in mainstream ‘talking therapies’.
I use various techniques, such as breathing exercises, Focusing, Tension Trauma Release Exercises (TRE) and other experiential exercises. I also use mainstream evidence-based treatment methods, such as Schematherapy, Affect Phobia Therapy and insightful (psychodynamic) psychotherapy.
I find it important to emphasize that in my treatments it is not the form of therapy that is central, but our contact. Numerous studies have shown that it is not the form of therapy, but the contact with the therapist that makes people better. During the sessions I will therefore pay a lot of attention to how you experience our contact. How we interact with each other really matters. Especially if in your family of origin you were not fully seen as who you are, when there was unpredictability, insecurity or other problems, in therapy you can learn to experience that you can rely on people. I would like to offer you a safe place to discover this together.
